2013 TASTE OF MESQUITE BBQ COOK-OFF
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
"How can I get an entry form?"
You can download a form from the Real.Texas.Festival. website at www.realtexasfestival.com. If you need an entry form faxed or mailed to you, please call the BBQ hotline at 972-216-6233 and leave your name and address or fax number.
"Will water and power be available at this event?"
Although available in the past, there is NO ELECTRICITY this year. Feel free to bring your portable generators. There are no water hook-ups, so cookers will need to supply their own water. Also, there are no facilities for grey or black water dumping.
"I like to locate next to my buddies. Can I save them a spot if I arrive early?"
Cookers that desire to locate near one another should plan on arriving together. All spaces are going to be marked this year (either 20 x 20 or 20 x 40 spaces) and cookers will be assigned to spaces on a first-come, first-served basis.
"How many vehicles can I have at my space?"
Only one vehicle will be allowed at each 20 x 20 or 20 x 40 space. Offsite parking is available nearby for additional vehicles. By limiting the number of vehicles we are able to maximize the number of cooker spaces available in our designated competition area at the Festival. More cookers means more fun!
"How early can I load in?"
Load-in begins at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26. No exceptions. For liability reasons, those arriving Thursday night will not be allowed access to the festival grounds or the cook-off area.
"Will I be allowed to stay overnight on Saturday following the competition?"
Yes, cookers may stay overnight on the festival grounds on Saturday, April 27.
"Are pets allowed?"
No animals are permitted (other than service dogs) in the BBQ cook-off area. We had a problem with this in the past and anyone bringing a dog or other animal will be required to make boarding arrangements or will be asked to leave the area and forfeit their entry fee(s).
"Is this cook-off sanctioned?"
Yes. This event has been sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society and all LSBS rules and regulations will apply. You can visit the LSBS website at www.lonestarbarbecue.com for official rules.
"What are the turn-in times?"
Turn-in times are as follows:
| 11:00 a.m. || Jackpot Beans|
| Noon || Half Chicken|
| 1:00 p.m. || Pork Spare Ribs|
| 2:00 p.m. || Brisket|

Cookers will get to enjoy nonstop music and benefit from proximity to the Festival where they can visit the food and craft vendors, the classic car show and other activities associated with the Festival. Be sure and check out www.realtexasfestival.com for more information about the bands and other events taking place on April 27 and 28.
"What are the prizes?"
First, second and third place finishers in each of the meat categories will receive a trophy and a cash prize (1st - $250, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $100), and the fourth thru 10th place finishers will each receive ribbons. The Grand Champion will receive $500, a trophy and complimentary entry fees in next year’s event. A total payout of $2,000 is guaranteed. The winner of the jackpot beans will receive one-half of the entry fees collected for that event.
"Are there any special “perks” for the cook-off entrants?"
