"How can I get an entry form?"

You can download a form. If you need an entry form faxed or mailed to you, please call the BBQ hotline at 972-861-2665.

"Will water and power be available at this event?"

Although available in the past, electricity and water connections will not be available. Portable generators are permitted. Contestants must supply their own water. Also, there are no facilities for grey or black water dumping.

"I like to locate next to my buddies. Can I save them a spot if I arrive early?"

Cookers that desire to locate near one another should plan on arriving together. All spaces are going to be marked this year (either 20x20, 30x30 and 30x40 spaces) and cookers will be assigned to spaces on a first-come, first-served basis.

"How many vehicles can I have at my space?"

Only one vehicle will be allowed at each pace. Offsite parking is available nearby for additional vehicles.

"How early can I load in?"

Load-in begins at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014. No exceptions. For liability reasons, those arriving Thursday night will not be allowed access to the festival grounds or the cook-off area.

"Will I be allowed to stay overnight on Saturday following the competition?"

Yes, cookers may stay overnight on the festival grounds on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

"Are pets allowed?"

No animals are permitted (other than service dogs) in the BBQ cook-off area.

"Is this cook-off sanctioned?"

Yes. This event has been sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society and all LSBS rules and regulations will apply. You can visit the LSBS website at www.lonestarbarbecue.com for official rules.

"What are the turn-in times?"

Turn-in times are as follows:

11:00 a.m. Jackpot Beans
Noon Half Chicken
1:00 p.m. Pork Spare Ribs
2:00 p.m. Brisket

"Does this BBQ competition benefit charity?"

Yes, the contest will benefit the Mesquite Fire Corps Association. For more on the mission of Mesquite Fire Corps, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/oem/act.php

"What are the site facilities like at this event?"

The BBQ cook-off site is located on the concrete parking lot of Mesquite Arena and is a part of the Real. Texas. Festival. which is a two-day festival featuring live music, the Cowboys and Chrome car Show, midway, an indoor rodeo, the Kids Korral and more!

"What are the prizes?"

First, second and third place finishers in each of the meat categories will receive a trophy and a cash prize (1st - $250, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $100), and the 4th – 10th place finishers will each receive ribbons. The Grand Champion will receive $500, a trophy and complimentary entry fees in next year’s event. A total payout of $2,000 is guaranteed. The winner of the Jackpot Beans will receive half of all entry fees collected.

"Are there any special “perks” for the cook-off entrants?"

Each Head Cook listed on official entry form will receive (1) complimentary two-day pass to the festival.
